SIVA North Divisionals

Congrats to the OSU Cowgirls volleyball club team who won their pool at the divisional tournament at TCU and automatically qualified for the SIVA conference tournament! The girls finished 5-1 in pool play, sweeping Texas Tech (25-18, 25-19, 25-18) and revenging their previous loss to TCU-A (11-25, 25-21, 25-18).

Going into bracket play as the #4 seed, they were once again matched up with TCU-A (5 seed). Knowing they would come out strong playing on their home court, the girls knew they were in for a challenge. The teams battled back and forth to 18-18 in the first game before TCU served their way to victory. OSU seemed to have gotten a bit of a kick to the stomach which they could never fully recover from. Kelva led the Cowgirl attack with 22 kills followed by Kara with 20. Karis provided an overall performance highlighted by 10 blocks and 16 kills and receiving nearly 1/3 of the other team's serves. Emily T. dished out a season high 72 assists along with 5 service aces. Also contributing to the team's success over the weekend were Mindy (12 kills), London (9 kills), and Emily P. at libero. The team also enjoyed having their supportive fans to cheer them on!

SIVA North at Baylor

The OSU girls took home a 5th place finish at their second SIVA tournament of the season. Their continued improvement was evident on the court this past weekend as they went 4-3 (sets) and were 1 point from making the semi-finals for the second straight tourney. A tough (24-26) loss to the 4 seed TCU-A ended the day for the Cowgirls as they entered bracket play with the 5 seed. For the most part they played very well in pool play, sweeping TCU-B (3-0) and taking one game from top seeded Baylor-A, with a score of 25-16 (we won't get into the two losses, just to say they were quick). Karis once again led the way with 17 kills and 5 blocks, followed by Kelva (14) and Kara (12). Emily T. and Marisa stepped in wonderfully to help the team as setters as well as each serving up 4 aces. Mindy also added 4 aces as she moved over to OH with Emily P. fighting through an injury and still able to step in as a strong libero. London also had a breakout game at RS with 7 kills and getting her first block during an important run vs. TCU-A. The girls hope to continue to improve and have fun as they get more time playing together.

Looking good as a team in the new uniforms!

First Tournament = 3rd place!

The OSU Women's Volleyball Club picked up their first win in two seasons as well as a 3rd place finish at the SIVA Northern division conference tournament this past weekend. 11 teams from Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma participated, hosted by the University of North Texas in Denton. Emily Pearce and Karis Peelen led the attack with 21 kills apiece over the 11 sets played during the day and Kelva Hunger added 16 kills. After a slow start with a loss to SFA, the girls took their first victory beating the UNT-B team and continued to play better as the day went along. After splitting with the TCU-A team, OSU was seeded 7th in bracket play. The momentum from a strong comeback in the first round carried over into the quarterfinal match-up against the Arkansas-B team. The girls played one of their best games, attacking at 0.600 with 12 kills on 20 attempts and no hitting errors. That win put OSU into the semi-finals and a rematch with SFA. Both teams battled hard as SFA took the first set and OSU took the second, but SFA prevailed in the 3rd. The cowgirls finished 6-5 (sets) overall. Congrats on a successful tournament!
